The Picnic Island Adventure Foot Race. Tampa
I got smoked by Alex in this one. Alex finished 2nd in the 200B class in Hare Scrambles.
As the horn blew, I started out thinking I will do a 7:15 first mile, then try to hold on the best I can for the last two miles. Well, the first mile went well, with Alex passing me right before the 1st mile point. I was hanging behind him, keeping him within striking distance... but he was pulling away. As we came to the obstacle course and had to crawl through the sand...... Alex seemed to be a little stunned that he had to get down and dirty in that hot sand after sweating for the 1st mile.... He slowed so much that I caught him and passed him coming out of the cargo net area... I pulled a few seconds and was thinking he couldn't hold on and things were going good..... then it happened... I started feeling really strange and exhausted and could barely go on. I tried to keep the pace, but the demons were getting me bed. I turned around and there was Alex starting to pass me by. As he went by, I realized that this was going to be a very tough race, since we had one more mile to go. I slowly watched Alex pull away and there was nothing I could do to reel him in. I was just trying to survive this one. In the end, Alex beat me by :58. My congrats to Alex for doing so much better than the race he did last year at this same location. I was very impressed that he kept strong and constant through out this race.
I will make sure I am up for the final Picnic Island Adventure Race in Tampa, next month. www.tamparaces.com I hope I can beat Alex next time.... this guy was smoking!!
